B. Buckner
Senior Chief Engineering Officer, USS Tanasi
Species: Human

Gender: Male
Rank: Commander
Service Number: SC-694192735

Affiliation: Starfleet, United Federation of Planets

B. Buckner serves as the Senior Chief Engineering Officer aboard the USS Tanasi, a Constitution III-class vessel assigned to exploratory and diplomatic missions along the fringes of Federation space. With more than two decades of Starfleet service, Buckner brings extensive experience and a pragmatic outlook to the ship's senior staff. Born on Earth in the Appalachian territories of former North America, Buckner was raised in a rugged, self-reliant community, a background reflected in a direct manner and hands-on leadership style. Entering Starfleet Academy with exceptional scores in systems integration and tactical logistics, Buckner graduated with distinction in Operational Command and Field Systems Engineering. Buckner stands just under six feet tall with a solid build and weathered features that reflect years of demanding service. Dark hair is usually kept short and neat, with streaks of gray at the temples showing the passage of time. A neatly trimmed beard is common, along with the faint scent of old tobacco from a long-standing habit of smoking hand-rolled cigarettes. Although Starfleet regulations discourage the practice, Buckner has a knack for finding isolated airlocks and quiet corners of the ship where old habits persist. Gruff at first meeting, Buckner has earned the respect of both the crew and command staff. Duty and discipline are taken seriously, but loyalty to the engineering team is unwavering. Beneath the stern exterior lies a dry sense of humor and an unexpectedly philosophical nature, often quoting Earth poets or obscure 22nd-century engineers during late-shift repair briefings. Personal and professional lives remain carefully separated, contributing to an air of mystery among junior officers. Few know much about life off duty, and fewer still have ever shared a drink outside working hours. Within engineering, Buckner is regarded as a master of complex starship systems. Power can be rerouted, warp field fluctuations stabilized, and failing subsystems restored with remarkable speed and precision. Expertise includes EPS flow regulation, shield harmonics, reactor maintenance, and emergency repair coordination, allowing problems to be identified before they become critical. During combat situations, Buckner's calm improvisation has saved the USS Tanasi on more than one occasion, often armed with little more than a hydrospanner, an override code, and determination. Previous assignments include three major combat theaters, including the Romulan border conflicts and the Tholian corridor patrols. Buckner is known for an exceptional memory, an unreadable poker face, and unwavering focus whenever the ship's systems are under stress. Promotion to First Officer has been declined several times, citing a preference for solving problems rather than attending staff meetings. Even so, Buckner remains one of the captain's most trusted advisers and a steady, reliable presence among the senior staff. Buckner has never sought recognition or acclaim. Instead, Buckner has built a reputation as the officer everyone hopes is at the engineering console when everything else is falling apart.
